How to Turn Off FileVault in macOS with Two Methods: Manual Way & Terminal Way

NOTE: This article contains information as to how to turn off FileVault in MacOS. The objective of this article is focus on the ways of turning it off, not the ways of getting access to your files once FileVault is turned off.
The methods of turning off FileVault can be done in two ways. You can manually turn off Filevault, or you can use the automated method. The manual way is a bit longer and requires that you carry out a few steps, while the automated way will be able to fit your schedule by autmatically turning it off as soon as your computer is idle. If you are not sure which method would work best for you, keep reading this article until the end to learn about both options.
First, let’s talk about what Filevault is. As the name suggests, it stores your encrypted files and secures them with strong encryption. If you have an encrypted file in FileVault, accessing that file would give you a “FileVault protected file” icon and your username. Once you double-click on the icon to access an encrypted file, it will lead to a Data Recovery window where you would be able to recover the password for decryption. Below I have added all the steps you need to perform to turn FileVault off.
STEP 1: From the Apple Menu, choose System Preferences from the drop-down menu. The System Preferences window will open.
